As a photographer my aim is to create that sort of image which has always affected me most: images that challenge preconceptions and stereotypes and that have the potential to open the eyes to the possibility that there are ways of living in the world that may be different from the familiar, but are none-the-less viable or possibly even inspirational.
As a child I wanted to be an anthropologist when I grew up. In college I double majored in anthropology and art history. To me photography is a natural combination of these interests. One of the most rewarding things about what I do is the entrée photography gives me to the lives of all kinds of people. Whether I'm having a discussion with a Massachusetts politician or enjoying the hospitality of a battered woman in New Delhi, I know photography has brought me to that place.
